The Basic Craps Rules for Every Player
Craps is often seen as one of the most complicated casino games in existence. However, it is not really difficult to play and once you know some of the basic rules of the game you can make some nice profit playing craps as well.
When you are new to casino gambling you may find all of the rules intimidating; but, this does not need to be the case. Here are some simple rules you need to know, to get you started playing craps:
Where to Stand at the Craps Table
The craps table is symmetrical from end to end; meaning it is the same at each end of the table and the center is where the proposition bets are located. There will always be three casino employees behind the craps table in the “pit” area, generally the box man, a stick man, and another dealer. As a player you are required to stand anywhere around the table outside of where these dealers are located.
Getting Your Chips
In order to play craps you obviously need to have gaming chips. To purchase your chips you will want to drop your money on the table in front of the dealer and let them know you want change. Dealers in the casino are not allowed to ever touch you and they cannot take money from your hand. When you want chips, you simply need to ask for change during a quiet time in the craps game, and drop your money for the dealer to pick-up. Whatever you do don’t drop your money on the table while the dice are in the air, as this might be seen as a bet!
Craps Betting
You can bet on anything you see on the craps table. However, you can place your bets yourself on the pass line, don’t pass line, come, don’t come, field, big 6 and big 8. Any other bets you will toss out to the dealers to place for you. If you would like to find out more information on each crap bets we have information and odds on all of them.
Dice Flying Off the Craps Table
Once in a while, usually with inexperienced dice rollers, they will toss the dice off of the table in the process of rolling them. You should never make an attempt to pick-up the dice unless the dealers specifically ask you to. If you are asked, you should simply pick-up the dice, in full-view of the dealers, and place them on the table in front of them to examine. Generally, the dealers will give the shooter new dice to choose from and not use the one you have handled.
Rolling the Dice
The dice are passed clockwise around the table and everyone playing is given the option of rolling them or passing them to the next player. When it is your turn you should accept the dice and roll them. To do so, it is generally a good idea to simply pick them up, always with only one hand, and roll them towards the other end of the table. You want them to bank off of the other end of the table to make it a legal roll. Be careful not to throw them so hard that they fly off of the table!
With these basic craps rules in mind, you can approach a craps table with confidence and try your luck at the game!
