8 Top Tips for Winning at the Game of Craps

Walk into any casino with an active craps table and you will hear the excited sounds of clapping and camaraderie amongst the players. While most casino games are solitary in nature, craps is generally seen as much more of a group effort. Because of the group aspect of craps, people tend to get rowdy and excited at the table when things are going well. The excitement and interaction of players can make craps a fun game to play.

Learning how to play craps well comes with some time and experience. Here are some tips to get you started:

Tip #1 – Watch the Table Before You Join the Game

One of the best tips you can be given in regards to playing craps, is to watch the table for a while before you jump in and play any big money. Get a feel for if the house is winning, or if the players are.

Tip #2 – Decide to Bet For or Against the Group

If you watch a craps table and notice that everyone seems to be loosing money, this is a good indication that you can bet against the group, with bets such as don’t pass and don’t come, and make money. However, if you are watching a table where everyone is winning, and the points are being made with regularity, then you want to bet on the more traditional pass line, come, and place bets.

Tip #3 – Always Bet Pass Line or Don’t Pass

When playing craps you always want to start out with a pass line or don’t pass line bet. This bet is the foundation of the game and you need to have one or the other to allow you to place your free odds bet.

Tip #4 – Always Bet Free Odds on Your Pass or Don’t Pass Bet

The entire point of having a pass line bet, or a don’t pass line bet, is to be able to place your free odds bet behind it. You should always bet the maximum allowed for your free odds bet because this bet carries the best odds you can get in casino gaming.

Tip #5 – Avoid the Prop Bets

The prop bet area includes all of the wagers at the middle of the table. These include: the hardways, horn, C & E, etc… While these bets often offer a great payout when they happen to come up, they are pretty much sucker bets and an extra way for the casino to take your money. When you play craps, stick to the pass line, don’t pass line, come, don’t come, place bets, and free odds.

Tip #6 – When You Are First Learning, Play During the Daytime Hours

When you are first learning to play craps, you are much better off doing so by playing during the day. You will find that the minimum bets are lower during the day and the tables tend to be less crowded. Daytime is when you can ask for help and advice and get it without angering the rest of the table or slowing the game down.

Tip #7 – Tip the Dealers When You Win

When you are winning at craps it is expected that you will tip the dealers. If you tip the dealers you will find that they are much freer with their advice and suggestions!

We hope that these tips will encourage you to try out the game of craps for yourself.

Tip #8 – Find the Table Odds

The best places to play craps is where they offer a good odds multiplier. Look for casinos that offer odds that are 5x all the way up to 100x! More at Las Vegas Craps Odds.
